Is vista good?
what is vista good for? Gaming, office work, programing or is it flexible. Also is it easier it upgrade or do you need more memory to support it?

P200 XP drivers and extended warranty
Nem, Great news. Glad to hear that that most of the A200 Vista drivers also work for the XP OS. I gotta do this on Monday so my programmers can proceed with dev tools that only work on XP OS. Did you notice that your notebook is faster with XP OS? I think that Vista is a hog, and will require 2Mb of RAM to run decent. Not sure if I believe poster who claims that machines are Vista ready therefore run faster with Vista OS. Take care... Sergio

I've got everything but the Fn keys working now. I used the drivers I previously posted, the Vista drivers for the modem and the TI card reader and 1394 bus (they say Vista but the installers work for XP too). I also used the A200 driver for the webcam (which works, but you will need to point Windows to the USB driver which is installed in the same folder as the webcam). The Fn key software for the A200 does NOT work. I'll keep trying, but we my have to wait on that one. As for the warranty, I never purchase warranties for any of my computers (I've gone through 10+ over many years in my home office). So far I'm out about $200 replacing various hardware components. Laptops are definitely more of a liability than desktops, where you can easily replace components. But for the price of computers these days, and the price of the warranty, I find it hard to justify. As long as you take decent care of it and have a backup, the 1 year warranty should catch and defects in the laptop.

Toshiba extended 3 year warranty – anyone
Guys, I planning to purchase the 3 year extended warranty. Did anyone go for this option? If so, did you get it from Futureshop or directly from Toshiba? My past Toshiba notebook was covered by Toshiba for 3 years and service was excellent. They replaced my main board 3 times. I hope Future shop can provide the same service. Please comment! Sergio

XP install on Vista Toshiba P200-RT3
Hi there, I just purchased the Toshiba P200-RT3 on sale this week at 899$. I'm planning to flush out Vista, and install a clean XP Pro. I noticed that the drivers are still not available on Toshiba.ca support. I also noticed that the drivers for XP for a different Toshiba, the A200 are available. I'm assuming that this machine (P200) is fairly new and that Toshiba will release the XP drivers any day. Please let me know if anyone has successfully installed XP with Toshiba drivers from the A200 model. That will be my attempt since both machines are identical for the exception of the 15" / 17" screen size. Take care... Sergio

Didn't even consider that there may not be XP drivers for this when I bought it, but I've managed to find most of the crucial ones on the web: Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset & Graphics: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro3945abg/index.htm (Download software Link) Realtek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=6&PFid=6&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false Realtek ALC861 Audio: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false The main drivers I'm still looking for are the Function hotkey, Webcam, Card Reader and 56k modem. Most of these I can live without, but if anyone else finds them, let me know. Nem

firewire is a lot like usb, but faster. Â are you looking for a lot of storage? Sometimes its cheaper to buy a case and a hard drive rather then a set.
