LG Trax won’t send text messages!

I just got this phone yesterday because I thought my old SLVR was unable to send text messages to other carriers. I would send the text message and it would show that the message was sent, but the person (normally on Verizon) would not recieve the text on their phone. If they sent me a text I could reply and they would recieve it, but no luck if I wanted to send them a text without replying.I thought the new phone would solve this problem, but no luck. Help?
