Hard Drive running 127 GB instead of 160GB

Computer: Acer Aspire 5002WLMi Motherboard: Lugano BIOS: Acer -- 3A27 Processor: AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-30 RAM: 1280 GB Graphics: SiS M760GX at 128 MB OS: Windows XP Home - SP3 all updates   -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   Just purchased a Western Digital 160GB 2.5" PATA Internal Hard Drive to upgrade from the factory 80GB HDD. After installing Windows XP, I noticed a few weeks ago that it was only showing 127.99 GB of space. As a computer nerd, looked at the disk manager "Disk Managment" and saw only the 127 GB. The missing 21 GB was not there, not even un-allocated. So I experimented by uninstalling drivers and after 5 reboots, it came up as 21 GB un-allocated. I Partioned it as a primary (also tried Extended) and worked fine. The next morning it was there but said that I must re-format it. So I tried but said I can not do so. So after deleting that partion, it once again vanished. I repeated this process again paying very close attention on what I was doing. I succesfully made the partion and shutdown. When rebooted, I did not delete the partion but left it alone and had to show something to someone on the 1st floor of my school so put the computer to sleep. After it woke up, It missteriously showed the 21 GB partion, with me able to use it. Looking at the disk, there was a folder called TEMP and it contained nothing. I reaserched for days and tried everything but still don't know why this is happening?  - I tried a program seeing if my LBM or something was right (old computers and XP SP1 only supported 127 GB)  - Re-Formating and installing Windows XP   Just need to know why this is happening and what I can do to either make it so the 21 GB works fine without me having to put the computer into sleep when I power up or have it connected with the other 127 GB.   Thanks,   Stephen Richardson   *Ps. I am not going to 'flash' the bios.
